Objectives

Enable Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to:

  • Take full control of their geospatial technology platform and operate it on a daily basis
  • Process, curate and disseminate new or updated geospatial datasets as they become available
  • Strengthen evidence-based development and humanitarian decision making nationally

Description

Discover

The GRID3 Nigeria technological platform provides a single point of reference and central authoritative source for geographical datasets common to all national programs.

The government can  collect, share and maintain  data.  International organizations, NGOs and civil society can better understand population distribution and the location of key features; administrative boundaries, settlements, health and safety services, education centers, public facilities, and water and sanitation amenities.

This improved understanding fosters better planning of public services and targeting of resources.

A set of tools has been developed to automate most of the data management technical tasks and to publish the curated data on the dissemination platform.
After an extensive capacity building phase, national staff have now gained full control of the operations and maintenance of the solution.

Context

Georeferenced data is instrumental for nations to identify target populations for public health interventions.

The Geo-Referenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) Nigeria initiative works across all states in Nigeria to facilitate the Projection, collection, use, and dissemination of geospatial reference data in support of national sectoral development priorities, humanitarian efforts, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
