EPFL Engineering Industry Day
Yesterday at the EPFL Engineering Industry Day, one recurring theme wasn’t a technology, it was a question: what does it actually mean to deploy AI responsibly, at scale, in the real world?
A few things stood out and directly shape the work we do for our clients at Novel-T:
🔷 Swiss Sovereign AI is getting better. EPFL’s open #Apertus is being built for exactly the clients who can’t afford black-box dependencies. We are looking forward to the multimodal agentic v1.5!
🔷 The hardware bottleneck is the next story. The gap between today’s GPUs and brain-level energy efficiency is huge – neuromorphic chips on 2D materials could redefine what’s feasible at the edge for specialized tasks.
🔷 Privacy-preserving AI is an infrastructure question. Distributed on-prem clusters developed Anyway Systems are becoming a serious answer for regulated environments.
And finally, Sarah Kenderdines closing keynote on immersive cultural heritage was entertaining, inspiring and a welcome reminder that meaningful applications of technology aren’t always about efficiency. At Novel-T, that’s the standard we hold ourselves to: AI that is powerful, sovereign, and built around what actually matters to our clients.
