Wastewater & Environmental Surveillance Meeting 2026

Back from two days in Accra for the Wastewater & Environmental Surveillance Meeting 2026. Short but intense.

The Kwan Pa Band opening the first morning was something special – they got the participants singing 😊. And the organizers did a great job running that conference smoothly.

The key open question is whether WES can move from donor-funded pilots to something ministries of health run as part of routine surveillance. A lot of the programme evolved/s around this, be it the sustainable scaling symposium, the costing discussions (taking place today) or Kate Olive Medlicott‘s keynote on integrating WES into the global public health architecture, and it felt like the field is getting serious about that shift.

Grateful I got to chair the session on catchment mapping and present on the ES.world platform (https://es.world) that we support at Novel-T. Even more grateful for the conversations around them, and looking forward to new collaborations.
